Toast of the Town- Marcel Maeder, Senior Cyber Security Engineer at Netcloud AG
1.What makes you excited about going to work every day?
There are so many things to learn – security is such a broad field. And even if you already know
things you can always take a deeper dive into technology.
2.If you could change one thing about security operations with a snap of your finger, what would it be?
Stop blaming end users. They are just using the tools you give them. Don't punish regular users
for clicking on links. If clicking on random links were a problem, you'd need whitelisting anyway.
And if you don't want your users to open random executables, maybe deploy application
3.Which security content do you like sharing with others or appreciate that is shared with you?
I really enjoy reading writeups about vulnerabilities. They sometimes give new ideas on how to
harden systems and some new detection ideas as well.
4.Tell us your work philosophy in 10 words or less.
Be curious; verify assumptions you have about an environment.
5.What's your favorite thing to operate (other than security) and why?
Going to the forest, climbing, and other things exhaust me and make me feel grounded.
